Brand Guidelines
Current brand materials — for internal and partner use
Who we are
In honor of those we have lost. In service of those still here.
Kiona Foundation Inc. is a 501(c)(3) public charity advancing novel botanical drug discovery, anchored in pharmacognosy — the study of medicines derived from natural sources. We pursue the FDA Botanical Drug Development pathway in search of less toxic, more effective options for patients where conventional therapy has been inadequate.
IRB-registered clinical research under OHRP Federal-Wide Assurance FWA00034558, including the active KF-ECS-2025 endocannabinoid system study.
Regenerative agriculture and indigenous land partnerships across Wayne County, New York and 11 international ecosystem nodes.
Founded in 2003 in honor of Kiona Tejan Jenkins. Carrying forward the work for the children, and for the families still walking the road.
Brand identity
The Kiona Foundation palette is anchored by two blues — a vivid electric blue and a deep navy — with a warm trio of yellows and orange as accent and energy colors. Black and white round out the system.

Usage note: KF Blue (#1906f1) is the primary brand color and should appear on all materials. KF Navy (#013399) works as a deep background or secondary header color. The yellow and orange accents should be used sparingly — for highlights, CTAs, or emphasis — not as dominant colors across a layout. Never use orange as a background color behind the logo.
Brand identity
Kiona Foundation uses Gotham as its primary typeface for all titles, headings, and display text, and Aptos for body copy. The pairing balances authoritative presence with clean readability.
Display & Headings
Used for all titles, section headers, and display copy. Sets the authoritative tone of the brand.
Gotham Bold — primary headlines
Gotham Black — emphasis, large callouts
Gotham Regular — subheadings
Gotham Light — large display, quotes
Body Copy
Used for body text, captions, and all long-form content. Clean and highly readable at small sizes.
Aptos Bold — emphasis within body copy
Aptos Regular — all paragraph text
Web note: Gotham is a licensed typeface and may not be available in all environments. When Gotham is unavailable, substitute with Montserrat Bold (available free on Google Fonts) as a close alternative for headings. For Aptos, substitute with DM Sans or Inter.
Brand identity
The Kiona Foundation mark exists in two forms — the full wordmark (KF symbol + "Kiona Foundation" text) and the standalone symbol. Both are approved for use. "Kiona Foundation" must always be typed out or the wordmark must be present on all KF materials.
Preferred use. KF symbol paired with full name. Use on white or light neutral backgrounds.
Use on KF Navy or dark backgrounds. Yellow accent version of the symbol is approved here.
For use in small contexts: profile photos, favicons, social icons. "Kiona Foundation" must appear elsewhere on the material.
Yellow on Navy version for dark contexts. Do not use on orange or yellow backgrounds.
Brand standards
These rules apply to all uses of the Kiona Foundation logo, across print, digital, and social. When in doubt, default to the navy or white background version and contact the communications team.
Do
Use the logo against light backgrounds — white, off-white, and light neutrals all work well
Don't
Use the logo against same-color backgrounds — blue on blue or logo on orange both fail
Do
Use both the full wordmark and the symbol mark — both are approved for different contexts
Don't
Make the logo transparent or apply opacity effects to the mark
Do
Always include "Kiona Foundation" typed out or as the wordmark on every piece of KF material
Don't
Use the symbol mark alone without the full name appearing anywhere else on the material
Do
Maintain clear space around the logo equal to the height of the KF symbol on all four sides
Don't
Stretch, rotate, recolor, or add drop shadows or effects to the logo mark
Orange background rule: The logo should never be placed directly on an orange (#ff8e00) background. Orange is an accent-only color in the KF palette and creates insufficient contrast with both the blue and yellow versions of the mark.
